{"id":108,"date":"2017-04-04T13:33:35","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T13:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olddogdesigns.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=108"},"modified":"2026-03-12T13:17:58","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T13:17:58","slug":"township-cemetery","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/oregontwpmi.gov\/?page_id=108","title":{"rendered":"Township Cemetery"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\">OREGON TOWNSHIP CONDENSED RULES AND REGULATIONS<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TO OREGON TOWNSHIP CEMETERY LOT OWNERS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All removable grave decorations must be removed by April 1st for the purpose of cleaning and preparing the Cemetery for Memorial Day. After May 1st, new decorations may be placed back on the graves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By order of the Oregon Township Board, grave blankets are allowed from November 1<sup>st\u00a0 <\/sup>\u00a0through April 1<sup>st<\/sup>.\u00a0 Flowers, decorations, emblems and other personal items will be allowed from May 1<sup>st<\/sup> through October 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>See<span style=\"color: #333399;\"> <a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"http:\/\/oregontwpmi.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Oregon-Township-Cemetery-Ordinance.pdf\">Township Cemetery Ordinance<\/a> <\/span>for a complete list of rules and regulations.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\">PERPETUAL CARE<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Perpetual Care shall consist of mowing, top dressing, seeding trimming trees and shrubbery, removing dead flowers, and general upkeep of lot. It shall not include the maintenance of a memorial marker, monument or other items.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\">GENERAL RULES<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. No vehicle shall be driven on other than established drives except for maintenance purposes. 2. Alcoholic beverages are not to be carried on or consumed on cemetery premises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>LOT OWNERSHIP<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. Description of all lots shall be in accordance with the cemetery plot, which is kept on file in the Oregon Township Office. 2. All sales of gravesites shall be recorded by the township. 3. All sales of cemetery lots must be paid in full on the date of the sale and shall be handled by the Township Clerk or an individual appointed by the Clerk. 4. The burial rite issued by the township and a copy of Township Cemetery Ordinance #9300 (above) shall constitute agreement between the township and the burial rite purchaser.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>CARE OF LOTS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. The general care of the cemetery is assumed by the Township Board. 2. The Township Board shall not be responsible for any kind damages by the elements, vandals, thieves, or by other causes beyond its control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FUNERALS AND INTERMENTS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. The cemetery will be open for interments year round. There may be additional charges during the winter months if snow removal or ground thawing is required, and weekend interments. 2. No interment shall take place without a burial permit, which shall be presented by the funeral director upon arrival at the cemetery. 3. All interments including cremations shall be made under the direction of Oregon Township who shall have entire control of digging graves and all matters pertaining to burial. 4. The burial of two or more persons in a single grave is prohibited except for mother and baby if buried at the same time, or 1 (one) burial plus 1 (one)cremains. 5. A maximum of 2 (two) cremains shall be allowed to be placed in one grave unless permission is otherwise granted by the Township Board. 6. The township requires that vaults are to be used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DECORATION OF GRAVE SITE OF LOT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. Flower pots and urns may be placed and maintained at the head stones of graves no earlier than May 1 and must be removed no later than October 1 of each year.\u00a0 2. Glass jars or other glass containers are prohibited. 3. Grave blankets are allowed from November 1st through April 1st.\u00a0 4. No grading, leveling or excavating within the cemetery shall be allowed.\u00a0 5. No landscaping, trees, shrubs, vines, fences, or seats-benches shall be done or placed upon any lot. 6. Any seat\/benches, urns, fences, or similar objects placed on a lot by permission by the Township Board must be kept painted and in good condition. 7. Any seat\/benches, urns, fences, or similar objects placed on a lot shall be removed without notice to owner when they become a nuisance or unsightly, uncared for, or has been placed without permission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>MONUMENTS AND MEMORIALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. No monument or headstone shall be erected without a foundation. The foundation will be purchased from and installed by the Township of Oregon. 2. Foundations can be ordered and installed from May 1st thru October 31st. No foundations will be ordered or installed between November 1st and April 30th. 3. No monument or headstone shall be delivered to the cemetery without prior approval of the township. 4.
